PREMARITAL COUNSELING

No matter your age or life experience, marriage is a major life decision. Married love carries with it the possibility of unsurpassed relational satisfaction and joy.

Life as a married couple is also hard work. Because we allow ourselves to be open and vulnerable with our spouse, the potential is there for deep emotional wounding when the unavoidable frustrations of life create stress in the relationship.

Part of the beauty of the Premarital Counseling Program at Samaritan Counseling Center is that the therapist can point out potential problems and make suggestions about how to handle these concerns before they become serious. As counselors who also treat marital couples struggling with the stresses of life, we know that an ounce of prevention really is worth a pound of cure.

Your premarital counseling at the Center will consist of four, one-hour sessions with a professional therapist. When either the bride or groom has been married before or has children, an additional session is added to discuss issues specific to blended family, step-parenting, and x-spouse issues as appropriate. During each session, you will receive guidance and suggestions aimed at making your future life together successful and enduring.

Each meeting will be devoted to the discussion of issues specifically related to your individual personalities and life experiences. Topics covered include but are not limited to:

Money
Fair Fighting
Family Roles
Faith/Religion
Communication
Goals and Dreams
Children and Parenting
“Baggage” From the Past

The fee for the four-session premarital counseling package is $300. The price of the five-session package is $350. Couples not able to afford these fees will be seen on the Center’s sliding fee scale, which is based on the couple’s annual gross income. Inquire at the Center for more information about our sliding scale.
If you plan to be married by a clergy person that requires premarital counseling, your Center counselor will provide a letter at the conclusion of your premarital counseling program verifying that you have completed all required sessions.
